Deep Sea Gulf Stream Fishing Miami

Gulf stream fishing Miami is really easy. The Gulf Stream is typically less than three miles of the coast of Miami and Miami Beach. The Gulf Stream is a 35 mile wide river in the Atlantic Ocean. The Gulf stream flows out of the loop current in the Gulf of Mexico and turns North between Cuba and the Florida Keys. The current then compresses at it flows between Miami Beach and the Great Bahama bank. Bimini Bahamas is the closest island to Miami. Bimini is just 50 miles from Miami and the Gulf stream fills 35 miles of the 50 mile stretch. The Gulf stream current typically runs at about 3.5 knots but may be as slow as a knot or as fast as 5 knots. The moving Gulf Stream waters are also warmer, and stay tempered all year.

Fish Found in the Gulf Stream

The cobalt almost purple waters of the Gulf Stream are a nutrient rich soup of plankton, eggs & fish and crab larvae. This is the basics of the off shore food chain. Small predators like Blue Runners, Goggle Eyes, Sardines, Scads and assorted Jacks abound. With all of this food the larger predators will not be far. Tunas from the smaller skipjacks to the largest Bluefin all take advantage of the nutrient rich Gulf Stream. Sailfish, Wahoo, Mahi Mahi (Dolphin Fish), Swordfish, Marlin and Sharks all live in the Gulf stream. All of these Sport Game fish migrate North and South with the seasons, while living and feeding in the warmer Gulf Stream waters.

Gulf Stream Fishing

Miami and Miami Beach offer some of the easiest access to great Gulf Stream fishing. The Western edge of the “Stream” can be as close as less than a mile from the beach. Although the edge is typically one to four miles off shore. Sailfish, Swordfish, Sharks, Tuna, Wahoo, Mahi Mahi (Dolphin fish) and many others all migrate just a short one to three miles off Miami and Miami Beach. That’s what makes Miami & Miami Beach one of the best places to take a half day charter. All of these great Sport Game fish are a possibility on a four hour half day charter. Off Miami and Miami Beach you can go catch a Sailfish in the morning and be at the dock in time for lunch or an afternoon at the beach !
