Todays Miami Fishing Report is about the great spring Sailfish fishing. This past week we had a tremendous amount of Sailfish bites on the troll. We have been catching Sailfish almost every day trolling Bonito strips. We combine Bonito strips with small trolling lures, skirts & mylar’s.
Miami Fishing Report – Sailfish fishing conditions
The Sailfish have been migrating in about 120 foot of water. We are finding the Sailfish fishing on the green colored water just inside of the hard north Gulf Stream current. The best bites have been when the wind is from the North. North winds and north current set up “tailing” conditions. Tailing is a description of a Sailfishes migrating pattern. When Sailfish are “tailing” they are swimming South riding on the surface. They surf down the swells with their tails in the air.
Miami Fishing Report – The spread…
We fish a six rod spread of bonito strips & bird teasers with small lures behind them. Lot’s of commotion on the surface and perfect swimming strips raise the Sailfish. Then drive the strike ! Our rods are 30lb matched tackle, loaded with 30lb line and 60lb wind on leaders. Fresh baits are the key. We cut fresh strips each morning from bonitas caught the afternoon before. The strips have great scent, color, shine and swim perfectly.
